Winning the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lottery for Coyote Buttes South is an exciting and rare opportunity to experience one of the most stunning and remote landscapes in the American Southwest. The lottery system, designed to preserve the area’s natural beauty and prevent overcrowding, limits the number of visitors each day.
There are two types of lotteries: an online lottery for permits months in advance and a daily lottery

House Rock Valley Road is a rugged, unpaved route spanning the Arizona/Utah border. The road offers incredible views and access to Coyote Buttes North/South, Buckskin Gulch, and White Pocket. Highly weather-dependent, this road features washboard, lateral washes, and a clay base that makes it impassable and treacherous when wet. Once off the main road, the BLM roads to reach Coyote Buttes South are deep sand, requiring high-clearance four-wheel drive. Those attempting to navigate it should be prepared for isolation, limited cell service, and ever-changing weather conditions.
